Alan joined Picker in November 2017 and works as a Research Statistician and Analyst. Drawing on his analytical ability and experience, Alan’s main responsibilities are design, conduct and interpretation of quantitative analysis (including generalised linear modelling and decision trees).
He is not just about numbers, though, and has experience in the development and implementation of surveys, interviews, and focus groups. Alan is passionate about the involvement of public and patients in research and improvement, and engaging people with results of the work. He facilitates workshops, presents at conferences, provides lectures, and supports student research.
Previously, Alan spent seven years in a crossover Academic-NHS role, implementing evidence into practice, through collaboration with stakeholders across the health sector; and a year as a researcher in the tourism sector. He holds a PhD from the University of Reading and has 28 peer-reviewed publications, 5 peer-reviewed conference proceedings, and 37 conference presentations and posters. His research interests are person centred care, quality improvement, complexity, and equity.
