Kindness doesn’t cost a thing
The online training programme @MindEd developed by the RCPCH is also a great resource. Laura and Tommy of @Chilypep shared the importance of peer support and the difference participation and involvement in services has in enhancing people’s wellbeing. Finally @KittyCormack shared that a little staff kindness and compassion towards children and young people with mental health, costs nothing, and goes a long way.
Taking the time to stop, be considerate and show a little empathy makes all the difference in reality to the child on the receiving end of it. It encourages them to trust you, and you can never be successful without that. One mum, Yvonne Newbold, powerfully conveyed the difference such kindness makes in her life, as she cares for her children with additional needs. You may need to put the kettle on and grab a packet of biscuits and tissues for her presentation, but it’s a must watch.
