Picker 20th Anniversary logo

In 2020, Picker are proud to celebrate our 20th anniversary as an independent charity. To mark this milestone, we’re launching a new logo.

Throughout the last two decades we have been at the forefront of efforts to influence, inspire, and empower the delivery of the highest quality person centred care for all, always. We’ve pioneered new methods of understanding and measuring people’s experiences of care, and our work has helped these methods to gain acceptance as a core element of service quality. In the UK, we’ve worked with national bodies and healthcare providers alike to build some of the largest feedback programmes in the world and our tools and methods have been adopted all around the world.

All of our activities are driven by one simple idea: that health and care services should be designed and delivered around their users. Patients and their families should have the opportunity to be active, involved participants in their care – not simply the passive recipients of treatment. This was the vision that inspired our founder, Harvey Picker, and that continues to motivate us today.

We recognise that the best quality care is built upon effective relationships between patients and the people looking after them. Measuring and understanding the workforce perspective is also hugely important to our philosophy – especially in times of pressure such as the world is facing in 2020. Because of this, today we work to improve both patient and staff experiences of care.

Whilst we’re proud of everything we’ve achieved, we know there is more still to be done. Most developed health systems recognise the importance of person centred care, but all too often there remain shortcomings in the care experienced by patients and service users. Our job is to help providers and commissioners better understand the needs and preferences of their users and put these at the heart of services – creating real, lasting improvements that deliver person centred care for all, always.
