Thursday 5th July marks the 70th birthday of the NHS. At Picker, we’re marking the occasion by sharing some personal reflections from colleagues on what the NHS means to us.
Chris Graham, Picker’s CEO, commented: “Reading through the comments from colleagues, I’ve been struck by how much the NHS has touched us all. Many of the comments express a deep gratitude – for life-saving treatment for ourselves or others, or for compassion shown in our or loved ones darkest hours. Others speak to the collective impact of a free at the point of need service for society, of how this promotes an idea of equity. For me, this is the fundamental spirit of the NHS: more than a care system, it is a truly transformative attempt to create a fairer, better world.
“It’s in that same spirit of optimism and progress that we work with the NHS and other care providers around the world to understand and improve people’s experiences of care. So as we celebrate the achievements of the last 70 years, let’s also continue to focus on how we can improve services in the future – to provide the highest quality person centred for all, always”
We’ll be posting personal reflections from our colleagues throughout the day via Twitter. Please take a moment to read them at https://twitter.com/pickereurope, and reply with the hashtag #NHS70 to share your own reflections.
