We partnered with Flen Health to explore the lived experiences of people managing wound care and to understand what matters most to them.

Two online patient panel sessions brought together 12 adults with current or recent experience of wound care, including patients and carers. Discussions explored experiences of shared care, information needs and the practical and emotional realities of managing wound care.

Participants highlighted the importance of:

  • Clear, personalised information and communication
  • Consistent support from healthcare professionals
  • Practical guidance for managing wound care at home
  • Clear expectations, demonstrations and follow-up when care is shared
  • Support that reflects the realities of everyday life

Accessing and navigating care was sometimes challenging, with participants describing unclear pathways, difficulties accessing specialist support and delays in care and referrals.

From insight to action

The insights informed the development of a new patient guide, which participants reviewed and refined during a second workshop. The final resources included a summary version and a more detailed guide, with a focus on plain language, clear structure, and accessible design.
